Hurricane Media is an award-winning video production company creating impactful videos & powerful marketing campaigns.
The GSMA Mobile World Congress is a combination of the world's largest exhibition and conference for the mobile industry.
Objective
Following on from the success of 2015’s partnership between leading marketing agency Hurricane Media and Opposable VR, GSMA wanted a new VR experience to form the centrepiece of 2016’s ‘Innovation City’ area.
Opposable VR was contracted by Hurricane to produce an experience that conveyed the core principals of the innovation city concept, while providing an interesting and innovative user experience.
What’s more, GSMA wanted to develop the VR concept on from 2015, requesting the use of an input method with which users could interact with the demo.
Solution
Opposable VR and Hurricane media designed an experience that would play on the set design of the Innovation City. With the stations set within a suspended airplane set, it was decided that the experience should start within an airport, with different doors allowing users to move through varying parts of the experience.
These areas included a subway car, a modern home, a sprawling city and a peaceful cafe, with each area representing a different aspect of mobile tech development. Every area featured interactive elements that were accompanied by a voiceover, providing the user with relevant information.
In order to interact with the experience, users were given a mobile phone that functioned as a controller. By tapping the phone’s screen, users could activate doors, buttons and switches within the experience.
Opposable VR also provided tech support for the experience, setting up the VR equipment before the event and ensuring it functioned properly during its course.
Result
The VR experience we created for Hurricane formed the centrepiece of the GSMA Innovation City area.
Queues to try the experience were constant throughout the four day event and Hurricane were very happy with the user feedback and quality of the experience and phone controller system.
The experience is to be used in a similar fashion at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Shanghai.
